Stone Town is the historic center of Zanzibar City located on the west coast of Unguja Island in Tanzania. The town is famous for its unique architecture, narrow streets, and rich cultural heritage influenced by Arab, Persian, Indian and European traditions. It was once a major centre of the spice trade and Indian Ocean trade routes during the 19th century and served as the capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate. Because of its historical importance, Stone Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 and remains one of the most visited tourist destinations in East Africa.
